Captains Log - S/V Cat's-Paw - Pelican Bay

17-Nov-23 - 14:00 - Departed T&J. Mark Christianson crew. Had some issues with the diesel. Had to bleed the injectors.

Just before Redfish point we were nearly run down by an asshole in large go fast. I don’t think he saw us until the last second. I contacted Art on Radiant and planned to rendezvous at Pine Island. Passing Tarpon Point we decided to stop there. We weren’t sure we could make Pine Island before dark. Anchored for the night in Glover Bight. Tranquility (Lee and Colisa) arrived later and anchored off our port bow.

18-Nov-23 - 07:00 - Departed Glover bight right behind Lee and Colisa on Tranquility (Hunter 380). Headed for Pelican Bay. Joined the ICW right behind James and Gina on Y-Knot (Hunter 436). Got the jib out and managed to sail all the way thru the Miserable Mile. Speed topped 7 knots a couple of times. Saw Art and Jackie anchored off St James City.

Just past the Miserable Mile Y-Knot lost power. I offered to stop and assist but James said “press on”. Had to furl the jib as we turned NW into 15G20 knot wind. Art stopped and helped James try and resolve his engine issue. Eventually they called Towboat US and got towed home. Art and Jackie returned to St James City.

13:00 - Set the Danforth with 100 ft of chain in 10 feet of water right next to Tranquility. Lee invite us to raft up but I felt it was a bit too rough. I later tried to contact them via VHF bout no luck. I thought about taking the dingy over but I didn't have the outboard and I was afraid I couldn't overcome the strong winds with only the oars.

19-Nov-23 - 08:20 - Hooks up. Spent the night riding the waves with 15-20 knots out of the north. The Danforth held fast! We rounded the north end of Punta Blanca Island and headed for marker “74”. Joined the ICW and set the jib with 3-5 knots on the port quarter. What happened to the wind?

09:18 - Gave up and furled the jib. Wind has died to nothing.

12:30 - Picnic Island

14:23 - CC Bridge

14:43 - T&J
